Dear Sir/Madam:
This office has identified you as still operating a short-term rental without properly
registering or receiving a Certificate of Fitness for this use. This is in violation of City of
Salem Code of Ordinances, Sec. 2-705, Certificate of fitness of rented dwelling unit,
apartment, or tenement, ¶ (3) Short-term rentals and Part III Code of Ordinances,
Chapter 15 SHORT-TERM RESIDENTIAL RENTALS.
Therefore, in accordance with City of Salem Code of Ordinances, Sec. 2-705,
Certificate of fitness of rented dwelling unit, apartment, or tenement, ¶ (3) Short-
term rentals and Part III, Code of Ordinances, Chapter 15, Short-Term Residential
Rentals you are hereby ordered to register your short-term rental unit(s) and
apply for Certificate of Fitness Inspections for your short-term rental unit(s) by
September 30, 2023.
Failure to comply with this order will result in a cease-and-desist order being
issued and fines of fifty ($50.00) dollars per day for every day that the dwelling
unit is unregistered and occupied without a Certificate of Fitness.
Should you be aggrieved by this Order, you have the right to request a hearing before
the Board of Health. A request for such a hearing must be received in writing in this
office of the Board of Health within seven (7) days of receipt of this Order. At said
hearing, you will be given the opportunity to be heard and to present witness and
documentary evidence as to why this Order should be modified or withdrawn. You may
be represented by an attorney. Please also be informed that you have the right to
inspect and obtain copies of all relevant inspection or investigation reports, orders, and
other documentary information in the possession of this Board, and that any adverse
party has the right to be present at the hearing.
