Violation(s) Based upon a tenant complaint, an inspection was conducted in accordance with Article II of the State Sanitary Code, 105 CMR 410.000. Upon inspection, the following were noted: 7 days .500 1. Both the right and left front living room windows have gaps and cracks around the frames and storm windows. Make repairs so that all windows are sealed, have properly fitted storms, are weathertight and have no gaps that allow air in; check all windows in unit for similar conditions and make necessary repairs to all. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .235 2. Vent fan above the stove does not appear to work. Repair or replace so the vent fan is in working condition. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .235 3. Middle burn on the stove does not work. Repair so burner is in working condition. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .500 4. There is what appears to be some old staining on the ceiling over the door inside the spare bedroom. Investigate for any leaks and repair; scrape and repaint affected areas so the ceiling is intact and in good condition. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .500 5. There is some bubbling paint on the wall near the corner of the tub in the bathroom. Scrape and repaint so this area is intact and in good condition. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .500 6. There is some peeling paint in the back hallway on the wall and ceiling. Scrape and repaint so walls and ceiling are intact and in good condition. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .520 7. There are no railings on the stairs in the back hallway between the first and second floor. Owner must provide a safe handrail on at least one side of a stairway as required by 780 CMR – Massachustts State Building Code. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. By April 1 .540 8. One window in the dining alcove is missing a screen. Properly fitted screens must be installed in all windows between April 1 and October 31 each year. Screens must be shown to be present and available for all windows so that they may be installed during the required times. 7 days .500 9. Caulk along the seam in the shower beneath the tub spout is missing. Re-caulk the seam in the shower. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .235 10. Sink in the bathroom appears to drain slowly and the stopper does not appear to work. Unclog and/or repair so that sink drains properly and the stopper works as intended. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .270 11. The kitchen window does not lock. All openable exterior windows must be capable of being locked; repair so this window is able to lock properly. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .530 12. Back entry door to unit has gaps around door frame with light visible from the other side when it is closed. Adjust door and/or provide weatherstripping so that there are no gaps around the door and it is weathertight when closed. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .500 13. Door to the spare bedroom is not able to be fully closed; the doorknob does not catch properly. Adjust or make repairs so this door can be closed and the knob works properly. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 7 days .235 14. The bolts on both the front and back doors are not able to be closed/do not catch when turned. Adjust or make repairs so the bolts are able to be turned and locked properly on both doors. Owner to correct this violation within 7 days. 30 days City of Salem code of ordinances, sec. 2-705 15. There is no certificate of fitness on file for this unit. In accordance with Salem city ordinance, owner must apply for and obtain a Certificate of Fitness for this unit when all above violations have been corrected.
