Dear Property Owner:
This.office has received many complaints regarding rodents entering and harboring in your property at 39
Salem Street in the City of Salem, Massachusetts.
Photographs viewed by the Board of Health show a large accumulation of trash in the back of this property
along Park street where a garage was previously taken down. The trash and debris in the yard is attracting
rodents to the area as evidenced by photos and videos received from the house next door of rats running
between the two yards and into the yard at 39 Salem.
Rodents are considered a neighborhood nuisance and community health hazard.
All trash in the yard at this property must be removed and the yard must be maintained in a clean, sanitary
manner to discourage rodents. The property, including the house must be exterminated by a licensed
exterminator. After extermination has taken place the yard and house must have all entry points and
openings sealed to prevent any animals from gaining access to the house.
In accordance with Mass General Laws, Chapter III, Section 123 you are ordered to retain the
services of a licensed exterminator and suppress the rodent population at the property within
fourteen (14) days of receipt of this order. A copy of the invoice(s) for extermination must,be
forwarded to the Board of Health.
Should you be aggrieved by this order, you have the right to request a hearing before the Board of Health.
A request for said hearing must be received in writing in the office of the Board of Health within 7 Days of
receipt of this order. At said hearing, you will be given an opportunity to be heard and to present witness
and documentary evidence as to why this order should be modified or withdrawn. You may be represented
by an attorney. Please also be informed that you have the right to inspect and obtain copies of all relevant
inspection or investigation reports, orders, and other documentary information in the possession of this
Board, and that any adverse party has the right to be present at the hearing.
