Colonial Men' s Shop - Big L Store 216 - 220 Essex Street February 13, 1978 At the request of Mr. Wilson of the Colonial Men' s Shop, Mr. Powers and I inspected the roof at 216-220 Essex Street. Snow depth' s were approximately three (3) feet at the time of the inspection. There did not appear to be any structural damage to the roof. Further inspection revealed water coming through ceiling in the Big L Store. Power was shut off. The building owner, Mr. Moustakis, contacted Kidney Roofing Co. to remove snow from the flat roof at the rear of the building. The Salem Fire Department removed over hanging snow from the Essex Street side of the roof. February 14, 1978 At the request of Mr. Swindell of Swindell Construction Co. I inspected the damage to Big L. The damage consisted of split sections of wood trim at a false beam incasing a 12 X 6 inch steel beam in the approximate center of the store. A self-closing device has been installed on the door. However, the glass is still broken and has not been replaced, and the door is now tremendously difficult to open. The representative from Beverly Glass, whom Mr. Shribman contracted with to fix the door, told us and Mr. Shribman that the threshold needs to replaced. The door is so old and is wedged in so tight that this is what's causing the strain. If the threshold isn't replaced, by winter time with the ice and snow, we won't be able to open the door at all. Most of our clients are women and we have complaints daily because it is so difficult to open the door. (We had one older gentleman who came into our office that couldn't get the door open at all. We had to open it for him.) It seems Mr. Shribman does the absolute least he can to correct a situation. I'm sure with a bit more intervention by your department, we can square this thing away.
