266 CANAL STREET POOL PLAN REVIEW LETTER CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS - -n..r- BOARD OF HEALTH 98 WASHINGTON STREET,3RD FLOOR SALEM,MA 01970 TEL. (978)741-1800 DOMINICK PANGALLO health a'salem.com DAVID GItEENBAUM,RS,CHO MAYOR HEA_TH AGENT June 10, 2025 Keith Mulkern Aquaknot Pools,Inc. 55 Woodrock Road Weymouth, MA 02189 Dear Mr. Mulkern, After having the plans relating to the pool being built for the Residences at Canal St., 266 Canal Street; Salem, MA reviewed, in accordance with 105 CMR 435.00: Minimum Standards for Swimming Pools (State Sanitary Code: Chapter 5)the following observations have been made: 435.03.5. There is no notation for a hose bib out by the pool. This may not be in your scope of work, but not seeing one on the Landscape drawing means a hose bib may not be placed out by the pool. There must be a hose bib in the vicinity of the pool. 435.03.7. There must be a designated space for janitorial supplies (also this space may be used for pool equipment, chemical storage, etc.). 435.03.8. The fencing is called out to be compliant, but no other information(cut sheet, spec sheet, etc.) is provided. This must be provided to both the Building and Health Departments for review and approval prior to installation. 435.06.3. There must be an extra set of cartridges. These should be part of the pool contractors, scope, if not, they must be provided by the owners before final inspection. 435.09. The drawing and the autofill cut sheet show the make-up water going directly into the pool. There must be an air gap. There should not be a problem with using a backflow preventer, but the code does specifically call out an air gap. A variance may be needed for this system. 435.12.2. There must be a 4" stripe on the edges of the steps. The 2" on the run and 2" on the riser works best. 435.13.1. There must be a 4' walkway around the pool. There appears to be 4' around the side opposite the building, but I could not scale this out to be sure-just a point to confirm before construction. 435.22. There is no signage called out. This is usually supplied by the pool contractor. If so, this should be noted on the plans someplace. If not, signage compliant with 435.22-3 must be supplied before inspection. 435.24. The Landscape drawing indicates there will be ring buoy, rescue hook and `backboard'. A backboard is only required in pools with lifeguards. If there are no lifeguards at this pool (and there are no notes that there will be guards) a backboard is not required and should not be supplied. 435.25.L There must be a first aid kit. This should be part of the pool contractors, scope, if not, it must be provided by the owners before final inspection. An ANSI- Z-308.1-2015 is recommended. These are not expensive and readily available. 435.30.1. There must be a test kit. This should be part of the pool contractors, scope, if not, it must be provided by the owners before final inspection. A Taylor K-2006 is recommended. These are not expensive and readily available. Please provide written responses and updated plans to reflect how these questions/comments will be addressed. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or need additional information. Hi David, See below and attached information. 435.03.5 - Hose Bib is on P-11 which I have attached. This is ok. 435.03.7 - Janitorial supplies will be stored in the same room as pool equipment. This is ok. 435.03.8 - See cut sheet attached. As mentioned, this must be provided to the Building Department prior to installation for review. 435.06.3 - Confirming there will be a second set of cartridges on site per code. This is ok. 435.09 - This is typical how we have done the auto fills connected to a backflow preventor. Please let me know how we need to proceed on this one. This is ok per the Board of Health, however this will need approval from Engineering and DPW. 435.12.2 - We do have the 4" stripe on the tread per code. Please confirm if you would like to be on rise as well. This is ok. 435.13.1 - Please see the attached plan with dimensions. This is ok. 435.22 - Owner will have three (3) made - one for each of the bathrooms, as well as outside next to the shower. They will also have one for no lifeguards (attached). We do supply as a generic on as part of our contract. This is ok. 435.24 - We have passed this on to the owner. This is ok. 435.25.1 - We will provide a first aid kit made per the spec in the health code. 435.30.1 - We provide a test. Same one you mentioned, TTK2006 - FAS DPD Test Kit. Please let me know of the few items we need to confirm.
