An application is being submitted to the Board of Appeals for the following reason(s):
I am appealing the denial of our Blackcraft Coffee blade sign hung inbetween 253 Essex St&259 Essex St(both properties operating as
Blackcraft Salem businesses)
For this reason,1 am requesting:
[true]Variance(s)from provisions of Section Section 4-51 of the Zoning Ordinance,specifically from(4) A sign attached at
right angles to a building, provided that such sign has no more than two faces and:
a.There is no more than one such sign for each entrance door to a business establishment;
Proposing to keep the Blackcraft Coffee sign in its current location given our significant amount of
frontage on Essex Street.The facade of the buildings (253 &259 Essex St.) does not appear to look
overcrowded. In addition, we are proposing adding a small rider sign below the existing sign that states
"Located in Blackcraft Salem"to help ease the boards concern on customer wayfinding. I ask that an
exemption to the code be granted to allow for multiple signs dependent on frontage space
I also ask the Board to consider our historic building, which we cannot easily adjust. This building gives
us very little space for marketing a business. No forward-facing windows visible at eye level for
passersby..

The Undersigned hereby petitions the Board of Appeals to vary the terms of the Salem Zoning Ordinance and allow the project to be
constructed as per the plans submitted,as the enforcement of said Zoning By-Laws would involve practical difficulty or unnecessary
hardship to the Undersigned and relief may be granted without substantially derogating from the intent and purpose of the Zoning
Ordinance.
