Hi All,
Answering Hannah's email on 12/26/24 below:
The distance between the two exis ng curb cuts is approx. 20 . If you account for the city’s ordinance
which prohibits parking 4 from a driveway, that leaves approx. 11 of curb space which is not enough
for a legal parking space. If you would like addi onal details on parking, please reach out to our
Transporta on Department.
5' from the property line is required. The curb cut length request should be revised accordingly.
Lastly, Prince Street was recently paved in November 2024. If zoning approves, the Engineering
Department will be requiring addi onal measures for the roadway. Crack sealing at a minimum.
Thank you,

Subject: 42 Harbor Street - Curb Cut
Hello Anduni,
I'm not sure you are the correct contact for this but if not please point me in the right direction! I live
at 42 Harbor St Salem MA 01970 and have an appeal in front of the Zoning Board to extend a curb
cut in order to use additional off-street parking. I know that Robyn Lee already reached out to the
Engineering Department on my behalf as the Zoning Board had several questions I couldn't answer.
I wanted to reach out myself as well to get your insights. I've included some references and
questions below.

Zoning Board of Appeals Questions:
The curb we are requesting to cut is painted yellow, can you let us know if that is a legal street
parking spot or, if not, what the legal designation is?
Can you please let me know where the closest legal street parking spot is, to the right and left
of our proposed curb cut? From how I see people parking on the street, I believe it is as
shown in the above map, but wanted to confirm.
The Zoning Board of Appeals asked that I get the engineering department's recommendation
on the curb cut. I've included the proposed curb cut plan attached. They mentioned that it has
to be at least 5' from the property line so I should request a 9' cut rather than the 15' cut on the
plan but that they wanted your input/suggestions. I'm not sure if it would make sense to set up
a meeting for next week to discuss this further?
Thank you so much, and apologies for such a long email!
Hannah
