SV Design Ilc is the architect designing the additions to, and renovations of, the above
referenced property. The project scope includes a redesign of the exterior lighting.
The existing site lighting was designed for the display of automobiles for sale which has
different characteristics than the lighting needs for the newly proposed building use as a health
clinic, adult day care center and specialty grocery store.
Accordingly, new site and exterior building lighting is proposed. SV has worked with a lighting
consultant to analyze the site/use conditions and provide a plan which conforms to Salem
regulations for exterior lighting. The photometric plan, along with the suggested light fixtures,
are attached.
The lighting plan employs a combination of freestanding pole mounted fixtures at 25' high and
wall mounted light fixtures mounted at 18' high on the building.
Special care was taken to avoid light trespass onto the adjacent condominium project on First
Street. Close examination of the photometric plan will reveal less than .5 footcandle levels at
the property line with most being .2 footcandles or less. This is roughly equivalent to a night
with very thin cloud cover.
Overall, the plan produces lower, but safe lighting levels more suitable to use of the site along
with energy efficiency.
