Barrio Taco Mural - IncompleteDesign Review Board Recommendation Small Project Review - SRA-22-11 Address of Project: 41 LAFAYETTE STREET Meeting Date:July 27, 2022 Members Present:David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy, Catherine Miller, Marc Perras, Helen Sides, J. Michael Sullivan Members Absent:Paul Durand Decision:To recommend approval of the mural, its location, dimensions, and its content with installation not to occur until review and approval by the Public Art Commission. Referenced Plans and Documents: - Barrio Taco Mural Application, prepared by Maggie Osborne and submitted 6/29/22. Conditions of Approval: - Consistency with Approved Design/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the project may not be completed as presented and conditioned herein, he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to making any changes in the field. - The applicant shall apply to the Public Art Commission for review and approval of the mural prior to its installation. Findings: - The Board found that the content of the proposed mural is quite beautiful and engaging and an appropriate way to cover brick that is in poor condition. Members determined, with changes to the proposed signage on this façade from painted letters to raised letters applied to the façade in dimensions that meet the Sign Code requirements, the mural and the signage are distinct. The mural can read as art without the signage imposing on it. Signature of the DRB: By the signature below, I certify that this recommendation accurately reflects the actions of the Design Review Board. Paul Durand, Chair Date Signed: July 28, 2022 SRA-22-11 DRB Recommendations for Signage on this Façade: If the mural is approved with the layout as shown in this image, the DRB recommends the applicant adjust the signage as follows: 1. Reduce sign area so that the sign is no larger than 33 square feet. 2. Remove the word ‘Salem’ from the sign. 3. Rather than paint the letters onto the façade, the applicant should install individual letters onto the brick façade. 4. The sign should be horizontally centered over the window opening. 06/30/2022 City of Salem, MA SRA-22-11 SRA-Urban Renewal Area - Small Project Review Additional Applicant Info Project Information Status: Active Date Created: Jun 29, 2022 Applicant Maggie Osborn mosborn@barrio-tacos.com 319 Vaughan Street Portsmouth , Nh 03801 6035607811 Location 41 LAFAYETTE STREET SALEM, MA 01970 Owner: ONELAF, LLC 20 CENTRAL STREET U1 SALEM, MA 01970 Is the owner the applicant?  Who is the point of contact for this application?
