Dear Ms. Fitzgerald;
A recent inspection of your premises reveals a dryer and exhaust vent problem.
The current configuration of these outlets, has them penetrating a Demising Wall. Under
the provisions of 780 CMR, the State Building Code, Chapter 7, Sections 707 and 708,
any rated wall system must also meet specific requirements as to the nature and materials
of this penetration. In other words this penetration must also meet the rating
requirements, which this current configuration does not.
Either a rated assembly must be employed, or the venting must be direct from the
unit to the outside. Also, any remaining penetrations in this rated wall assembly must be
properly sealed to maintain the fire rating of this demising wall.
