City of Salem’s Church Street Parking Lot Improvements

Summary: At a regular meeting of the Salem Redevelopment Authority (SRA), members
considered the details of the City’s proposal to resurface and restripe in a new parking
configuration in the Church Street West Parking Lot and to restripe the Church Street East
Parking Lot.
This project will include the reconfiguration of the west lot to improve circulation and facilitate
the addition of 16 new parking spaces with two new accessible spaces. The east lot will be
refreshed with new painted striping, but there will be no change in the current configuration.
The work is anticipated to being in the coming weeks with the resurfacing and painting work to
be completed during the evening and overnight hours.
SRA members voted unanimously to support this project. They believe that the reconfiguration
of the west lot that not only improves the interior circulation of the lot, but also adds parking
capacity is a positive improvement. The repainting of the east lot so that the two match in
appearance is also a benefit.
