RE: 2 Means of Egress
Egress through intervening spaces
Window repair
Repair ceiling
Dear Mr. Sager
As of February 4, 2025 it has come to my attention that your property at 14
High Street Unit 1R Salem MA does not meet Massachusetts code of means of
egress I observed the current second means of egress passes through a room
being used as a bedroom to left of entry. This violates Massachusetts building
code section 1016.2 which states a means of egress cannot pass through
sleeping areas This now leads to only I means of egress which is a violation of
section 1006.2 stating that 2 means of egress is needed.
During the same inspection of 14 High Street it was also observed in unit IF
the drop ceiling is impeding the proper function of the units means of egress
This is a violation of International Existing Building Code section 404.1. In
addition, it was also observed in unit IF a window had a sheet ofplywood
screwed over the opening. This is a violation of International Building Code
section 101.4.4.
An inspection was conducted on this date February 4, 2025 along side the health
department. We were accompanied by property manager Kevin Dunn who
appeared to have begun addressing issues from a previous inspection with the
health department.
