Design Review Board Recommendation
Small Project Review - SRA-22-15
Address of Project: 140 WASHINGTON STREET
Meeting Date:September 28, 2022
Members Present:Paul Durand, David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy, Marc Perras, J. Michael Sullivan, Sarah Tarbet
Members Absent:Catherine Miller
Decision:To recommend approval of the project as presented and conditioned herein.
Referenced Plans and Documents:
- Plan set titled, 'Salem Housing Authority Roof Replacement', prepared by Andrew M. Brockway & Associates,
209 Parker Street, Acton, MA 01720, dated 9/8/22. A set of photographs showing existing conditions, submitted on August 25, 2022.
Conditions of Approval:
- Consistency with Approved Design/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the project may not be completed
as presented and conditioned herein, he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to
making any changes in the field.
- Create a reveal by setting the new fascia back from the existing plane. Rather than white, the new fascia should be gray or silver.
Findings:
- The Board found that the project is consistent with the design standards and guidelines in that the shape of the
parapet will not change with the increase in roof height. The change in appearance of the roofline, especially from
the street, will be negligible. The incorporation of a reveal in the fascia and the change in color from white to gray or silver will help the new
work blend with the building's historic appearance.
Signature of the DRB: By the signature below, I certify that this recommendation accurately reflects the actions of
the Design Review Board.
