I will add it to the January 27th DRB meeting and will send you an agenda when it is finalized approximately a week before the meeting. Can you confirm the name of the business? Is it Sweet Boba or Swee Boba? The sign specs have the 't' and the mock-up is missing the 't'. City of Salem, MA Ken McTague commented on Assigned by location regarding Urban Renewal Zone for #SP-20-32 "Hi Kate, Yes we plan to use the existing brackets, which are all at 13' from the bottom of the bracket to the ground, with the sign at 32" we keep the bottom of the sign at 10' (not sure the dimensions on dunks, if I had to guess they were around 2x3) unfortunately the awnings do obstruct a portion of the derby st side from certain angles. I have attached a picture of how the neighboring sign Cilantro (3'x4') is effected by the awning. I suspected the smaller width on ours will allow it to protrude a bit more and be less obstructed. Powered by the OpenGov platform Page 1 of 1 Design Review Board Sign Recommendation 282 Derby Street Sweet Boba Signs Meeting Date: January 27, 2021 Members Present: Paul Durand, Chair, Helen Sides, Vice-Chair, David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy, Catherine Miller, Marc Perras, J. Michael Sullivan Members Absent: None Decision: At a regular meeting of the Design Review Board (DRB), upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to recommend approval of the sign proposal as designed and conditioned herein. Referenced Plans and Documents 1. Sign Proposal, prepared by Concept Signs, 57 Bridge Street, Salem, MA 01970, submitted 12/11/2020. 2. Staff Comments dated 1/20/21. Conditions of Approval 1. Consistency with Design/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the approved sign design may not be completed as detailed in the plans referenced herein and the following conditions, he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to making any changes in the field. 2. Sign Design: The pink pin stripe detail around the name of the business and the logo shall be removed. 3. Surety Bond: The applicant shall adhere to the surety bond requirements as found in the City of Salem’s Code of Ordinances, Section 4-47: Signs or Structures over Public Ways. Findings 1. The DRB reviewed the sign proposal and found that the proposed signage is consistent with the standards and guidelines in the SRA Sign Manual and the City of Salem Sign Ordinance. 2. The proposal is modest with members appreciating its charming design. 3. The members found that the requirement for blade signs to be stationary was not appropriate for this sign for the following reasons: a. The applicant is using the existing brackets that do not allow for the sign to be pinned stationary. This is preferable to installing new ones which would require drilling new holes into the building’s historic brick façade; and b. The signs are small and thus the wind load and movement of the signs will be minimal. Signature of the DRB By the signature below, I certify that this recommendation accurately reflects the actions of the Design Review Board. _______________________________________ ________ Paul Durand Date Chair 1-28-2021
