Design Review Board Sign Recommendation

Meeting Date: January 27, 2021
Members Present: Paul Durand, Chair, Helen Sides, Vice-Chair, David Jaquith, Glenn Kennedy,
Catherine Miller, Marc Perras, J. Michael Sullivan
Members Absent: None
Decision: At a regular meeting of the Design Review Board (DRB), upon a motion duly made and seconded,
it was unanimously voted to recommend approval of the sign proposal as designed and conditioned herein.
Referenced Plans and Documents
1. Sign Proposal, prepared by Image One, 677 Dunksferry road, Bensalem, PA 19020, dated 2/17/21.
2. Staff Comments dated 1/20/21.
Conditions of Approval
1. Consistency with Design/Plans: Should the applicant determine that the approved sign design may
not be completed as detailed in the plans referenced herein and the following conditions,
he/she/they shall return to the DRB to review proposed modifications prior to making any changes
in the field.
2. Surety Bond: The applicant shall adhere to the surety bond requirements as found in the City of
Salem’s Code of Ordinances, Section 4-47: Signs or Structures over Public Ways.
Findings
1. The DRB reviewed the sign proposal at the January meeting and found that with revisions as stated
at the meeting, the sign package would be consistent with the standards and guidelines in the SRA
Sign Manual and the City of Salem Sign Ordinance.
2. The applicant worked to revise the sign package as recommended by the DRB with the above-
referenced Sign Proposal representing all of the members’ comments and recommendations.
3. The members found that the internal illumination on the blade sign was appropriate since the sign
background is opaque with only the letters and the logo glowing.
