Applicant's Description of Work:It is proposed to reroof the addition of the Carriage Barn (flat- 29 sq. ft.) of
Phillips House (34 Chestnut Street) due to widespread biloigical growth on its
surface and a hole in its southeast corner. The existing roof is tar and gravel
and it is proposed to swith this material to a rubber membrane. The rational
behind this swith is that the former is becoming antiquated while the latter is
thought to be a sutitable alternative material. The rubber may or may not be
topped with gravel to mimic the look of tar and gravel. The actual roof of the
addition is not readily visible from the ground and there is precedent for the
swith as several of the flat roofs of Phillips House have already made the swith.
The project is expected to take 2-3 days to complete.
In addition to the above work, there are three locailized areas of the Museum
roof that require repairs due to water infiltration. The first area is on the
southern slope (comprised of slate) of the main block of the structure, while the
second and third areas are on the flat roofs of a two-story addition and a one-
story addtion, both off of the rear of the structure.
