Applicant's Description of Work:Install 2 rectangular copper vent stacks, one 3” x 5” and 3” x 10” for
bathroom and gas range that shall exit the flat roof over a section of Unit 2
and be placed along the outside of the building 70” from the flat roof and
then upward to the soffit and then turns down just under the soffit.
Due to the construction of the flat roof, the location access to the roof from
the 2nd floor unit, and the location of the 3rd floor kitchen window and
bathroom windows, this is the best and only feasible location that does not
visually impair with the 3rd floor line of site through the windows and is
accessible in the ceiling from the 2nd floor unit through an old covered up
skylight.
Situation Regarding Venting
Upon remodeling of kitchen and bathroom and laundry room we
uncovered that the venting of existing appliances and bathroom was non-
existent and not to Mass Building Code.
Building Code Requirements
Exhaust air from bathrooms shall not be recirculated within a residence or
circulated to another dwelling unit and shall be exhausted directly to the
outdoors.
Exhaust air from bathrooms, toilet rooms and kitchens shall not discharge
into an attic, crawl space or other areas inside the building.
Dryer exhaust systems shall be independent of all other systems, shall
convey the moisture to the outdoors and shall terminate on the outside of
the building.
Fuel-burning appliances shall be vented to the outside in accordance with
their listing and label and manufacturer's installation.
