WAIVER OF THE DEMOLITION DELAY ORDINANCE
It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has waived the Demolition Delay Ordinance
for the proposed demolition as described below, as per the requirements set forth in the Historic District's
Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance.
Address of Property: 30 Northey Street
Name of Record Owner: Flora Tonthat
Description of Demolition Work Proposed:
Demolish more than 50% of garage roof.
Per the Demolition Delay Ordinance, the Commission made the following findings:
1) The Commission voted unanimously to find the garage building historically significant as it is a
contributing resource in the Bridge Street Neck National Register Historic District; and
2) Based on the revised renovation plans by Studioful Design+Architecture dated 4/17/24 (see
attached image), which modifies the roofline and façade of the garage while preserving the overall
symmetry and rhythm of the three-bay garage and incorporating historic design elements from the
ca. 1830 Federal style house, the Commission voted 4-1 to find the roof not preferably preserved
and the work may proceed on the improvements shown on the plans.
