7 Cambridge Street CofNA Salem Historical Commission 98 WASHINGTON STREET, SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS 01970 (978) 619-5685 CERTIFICATE OF NON-APPLICABILITY It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:  Construction  Moving  Reconstruction  Alteration  Demolition x Painting  Signage x Other Work as described below does not involve an exterior architectural feature or involves a feature covered by the exemptions or limitations set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance. District: McIntire Address of Property: 7 Cambridge Street Name of Record Owner: Hamilton Hall Description of Work Proposed: • Remove the gutter, repair the fascia, and consider gutter replacement (pending cost). o If replacing gutter - material will be copper, to match existing material. o The only alteration would be increasing the size of the gutter to match the size and pitch of the roof. If gutter replacement is determined to be necessary, the Applicant will submit a new application to the Historical Commission. • Scrape, repair, and repaint (color match) exterior trim and fascia. o Location: Chestnut Street elevation (North facing). This is in the public view • Scrape, repair, reglaze, and repaint (color match) windowsills, window muntins/mullions on exterior windows. o Mahogany will be used where replacement materials are needed.  This includes (3) Palladian windows and (4) double-hung windows. o Location: Rear of Hamilton Hall, between 7 Cambridge Street and 9 Cambridge Street. (South facing) This is not in the public view) • Scrape, repair, reglaze, and repaint (color match) windowsill, window muntins/mullions on Hamilton Hall's iconic fanlight over the main entrance of the building. Replacement of material not anticipated. o Location: Cambridge Street elevation. This is in the public view. • Replace in-kind (4) exterior doors, including the sidelites. Transom glazing when applicable, in-kind. o All measurements are from existing doors to replicate as close as possible.  However, some of the rear doors are not original (metal doors/ cheap Home Depot replacements) and are being replaced in-kind to match the rest of the exterior doors (see attached photos).  Doors and surrounds will be painted (color match).  Door hardware to remain the same where possible. In-kind replacement if needed. o Location: (3) Doors are at the rear of Hamilton Hall, between 7 Cambridge Street and 9 Cambridge Street. (South facing) This is not in the public view. (1) Door is on the Chestnut Street elevation (North Facing). This door is in the public view. • Replace all exterior shutters with identical style, size, and design. Shutters will be painted to color match. o Location: (5) sets of shutters on the Chestnut Street elevation and (14) sets of shutters on the Cambridge Street elevation. Both of these are in the public view. Non-Applicable due to not being visible from any public way and/or in-kind repairs. There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward appearance. Should changes be mate to color, material, or design, the Applicant will submit a new application to the Historical Commission. Upon completion of the above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
