The roof of the back addition is now leaking, creating water damage on the ceiling in one room (on the second floor of the back addition). The south side of the back addition's roof needs to be re-shingled. This will involve adding 1/2" plywood and installing the flashing properly, neither of which were done last year by MJM Construction. The flashing was installed on top of the shingles, rather than under the shingles. The new contractor will be Shea Roofing Company. The shingles will be exactly the same as the ones that were approved by the Salem Historical Commission last year on March 8, 2022 (GAF Slateline shingles in "English Gray"). Statement of Conditions: CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS – EXTENDED 11/30/23 It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed: ¨ Construction ¨ Moving ¨ Reconstruction v Alteration ¨ Demolition ¨ Painting ¨ Signage ¨ Other work as described below will be appropriate to the preservation of said Historic District, as per the requirements set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance. District: McIntire Address of Property: 28 Beckford Street Name of Record Owner: Danielle Hanrahan and Elaine Wintman Description of Approval of Work: 1.In-kind repairs to damaged chimney to match existing brick color, dimensions and bond pattern and mortar composition; 2.Replace 3tab asphalt roof with GAF Slateline designer shingles in “English Gray”; 3.Install new copper gutters and downspouts on south elevation of main house and north and south elevations of rear addition with the following conditions: a.Downspouts to be fabricated in smooth round copper; b.New gutter on main house to be half-round copper placed over existing cornice molding; c.New copper gutters on rear addition to be in half-round or K-style profile. Upon completion of work, please notify Historical Commission staff for final review and sign-off of Certificate. Dated: March 8, 2022/November 30, 2023 SALEM HISTORICAL COMMISSION The homeowner has the option not to commence the work (unless it relates to resolving an outstanding violation). All work commenced must be completed within one year from this date unless otherwise indicated. THIS IS NOT A BUILDING PERMIT. Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff through permitting system as final sign-off is required to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
