RE: 9 Pleasant Street
Dear Owners,
On Tuesday, September 12,2023, I was informed of a partial building collapse by the Salem Fire
Department and was requested to respond to 9 Pleasant Street. Upon arrival and inspecting the
incident, it was confirmed that a back section of the structure had collapsed, and one wall had
fallen into the neighbor's yard. The chimney along with the other wall were ready to collapse
into the other neighbor's property.
At this time, I determined the building was unsafe and unstable, I had to alleviate the situation
and make it safe. I ordered the remaining partial collapsed structure be taken down to a point
where it was safe.
Due to structural issues and Building code violations I revoked the occupancy and the Health
department ordered immediate condemnation.
You are directed to have a licensed professional submit Building, Electrical, Plumbing and all
necessary permits to correct all Building structural and Code violations. Once all violations are
corrected, pass inspection and the building is safe to occupy, a Certificate of Occupancy will be
issued.
If you are aggrieved by this order your appeal is to the Board of Buildings, Regulations and
Standards in Boston.
Sincerely,
