RE. Basement room
Dear Ms. George,
You previously received a required Inspection notice from this office regarding a living quarters that was
constructed in the basement of your two family Condo building. You complied with our directive and met with
my Assistant, Voula Orfanos in December. Inspector Orfanos identified that a room had been constructed and
appeared to be used as a living space. This room had no building permits and more concerning, no Electrical
permits. This is a violation of State Building Code 780 CMR section R 105 titled : Permits .
It also appears to be a living quarters for an individual. This would be Zoning violation in addition to additional
Building Code , and Health violations.
You are directed to cease using this room immediately and to secure a Building permit to remove the room
within 30 days of receipt of this notice. If you feel you are aggrieved by the Building Code order, your Appeal
is to the Board of Buildings, Regulations and Standards in Boston. If you feel you are aggrieved by the Zoning
issue, your Appeal is to the Salem Zoning Board of Appeals.
Failure to address this violation within 30 days will result in daily fines and further enforcement actions.
