57 Warren Street - C of A application - replace entry steps6/21/23, 11:31 AM about:blank about:blank 1/2 Salem Historical Commission 98 WASHINGTON STREET, SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS 01970  (978) 619-5685 Application for: Certificate of Non-Applicability - HCA-23-49 Date of Submission: May 30, 2023 Owner at Submission (from Assessor) Jessica Santos   Applicant name:Jessica Santos Owner (from Applicant) Applicant phone:7038016172 Owner Phone 7038016172 Applicant email:jessicaksantos@gmail.com Owner Email jessicaksantos@gmail.com Address of Property: 57 Warren Street #1, 2 and 3    Declared District:  McIntire Year Built (From Assessor) Occupancy (from Assessor) Zoning (From Assessor) Building Type (from Assessor) Property Use (From Assessor) Type of Work:   Is work visible from Public Way?:Yes Applicant's Description of Work:Our front porch stairs have been in poor shape for a while with bending and loose boards. When we had members of the historical committee out for Unit #1's heating conversion, we asked about the options for replacing some of the boards, what we would need from the committee, etc. We were told that as long as it looked exactly the same, same paint color, etc that we could apply for this type of certificate. We were waiting until winter ended and for our HOA funds to build up again in order to tackle the project, but a few weeks ago, two of the boards cracked, one leaving a significant and long hole. Another board was separated almost completely from the base and both handrails were not solidly attached. We have three units with multiple people and dogs who use these steps everyday, multiple times a day. We needed to make sure that our entry way was safe for us, as well as all the other people using them daily (delivery drivers, mail carriers, other guests, etc). The steps were incredibly unsafe for us to wait further to get something into place. We now have a sturdy set of steps and secured the same handrails, that minus the paint, looks as it did before. We are applying now so we can continue to paint (using the same preapproved color) and protect them from any further wear and tear. 6/21/23, 11:31 AM about:blank about:blank 2/2
