It was previously covered on the exterior by a 4 inch wide plank that ran from the bottom of the first floor to the top of the second floor.  It was discovered that the structural post is severly damaged. To access the post, the clapboard and sheathing were cut. After replacing the deteriorated structural post, we propose to cover the new post with a similar plank, but the plank will be 12 inches wide. Using a wider plank lets us avoid trying to remove the clapboards surrounding the post. The original plank was painted the same color as the clapboard. We propose to do the same - paint the plank the same color as the clapboard but with the newly approved colors.
