Written Statement (Variance);
I am writing to formally apply for a variance, I am seeking permission to add a staircase to the
rear of my property located at 107 Mason St.
This dwelling, built prior to the implementation of the city's zoning laws, currently does not
conform to the city's setback requirements The proposed staircase will serve as a vital life
safety improvement by providing a secure secondary means of egress from the property. It's
important to note that the design and location of this staircase, at the rear of the dwelling, have
been thoughtfully considered to maintain the existing aesthetic and character of our
neighborhood
I understand that expanding a nonconforming structure often requires careful consideration and
a balance of interests I assure you that the proposed addition of this staircase is primarily
driven by a need to enhance safety measures for occupants, without compromising the look and
feel of our community
I have provided additional information on the attached "Statement of Hardship" file for your
evaluation of this application I look forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively with your
department to improve both the safety and value of my home while maintaining our
neighborhood's character
Thank you for considering my application I am looking forward to your favorable response
