Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance. District: McIntire Address of Property: 330 Essex Street Name of Record Owner: Larrabee Description of Work Proposed:  Mortar and masonry repairs to foundation o Repoint granite foundation. Remove existing mortar to a minimum depth of 2 to 2½ width of joint to ensure adequate bond. Mortar should be removed by hand or with small pneumatically powered chisels to avoid damage to masonry. Mechanical tools shall not be used on vertical joints. o Mortar should match the following:  Type N (1 part cement/1 part lime/6 parts sand) o Mortar to match existing color, grain size, texture and tooling/pointing style. o Cleaning of masonry surfaces to be by gentlest means possible, such as washing with lower pressure water and soft natural bristle brushes. High pressure washing and sandblasting is not allowed. o Waterproof coatings and sealants should be avoided.  Mason to provide test sample of mortar application before completing project There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward appearance. Non-applicable due to being in- kind repair. Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
