40R Highland Ave Complaint Letter 3-29-2023 RECEIVED

CITY OF SALEM
BOARD OF HEALTH
To Whom It May Concern:
I am one of many home health aides/companions that are assigned to take care
of tenants through our employer at Fairweather Apartments, at 4011 Highland
Ave, in Salem, MA.
Many tenants have complained about the health hazards at the complex, but no
one does anything about their complaints. The office personnel have no skills in
dealing with senior citizens, no skills to addresses issues in the complex. Many
tenants are suffering with bed buE infestation and cockroaches. Plenty of tenants
have bite marks all over there human skin from the bed bugs. (Pictures tell the
story) The entire complex needs to be vacated to eradicate these insects.
The complex does not allow anyone to use the recreation room, there are no
activities for the tenants, the exercise equipment room, needs repairs beyond
what is affordable, there is a computer room that is off limits to the tenants as
well. There is a food truck that comes on Fridays, but again, there is no law and
order, no supervision, for people to line up to be get food goods, people are
hoarding the food in the one hour the food truck is here, and some people just
about get trampled on and get nothing from the truck. Why can't there be a
better system.
There are many ethnic backgrounds housed in this complex. Some take in their
relatives, grandchildren in their one bedroom apartment, nothing is said or done
about this. Many tenants are alcoholics, dreg problems, serious health issues.
Drunks in the hallways at night, ringing other tenants doorbells to enter the
building. Many complaints are made by the tenants, but it falls on deaf ears of
the office personnel.
The outside dumpster is always overfilled —the complex houses over 200 people,
they need a larger dumpster or two dumpsters.
The office locks their door so none of the tenants will go in to bother them,.
They don't answer their phone when a phone call goes to them. On occasion, if
one calls the main number, someone will answer the phone, and then tell the
person not to use that phone number.
If any tenants orders something by mail to be shipped to this address, most of the
time, someone steals the packages. It could be paper towels, it could be personal
Items such as medications being delivered.
Better management, better maintenance, is needed.....the complex is infested
with bugs. What is it going to take to address the issues at this complex.
I am going to send this letter to many authorities of the City of Salem. Something
needs to be done at this complex for the people who are living there. I have to
change my attire every day and send my laundry to a service because my clothes
are picking up the insects.
Why aren't the officials in this City addressing these hazards.
