Dear Sir/Madam,
On Thursday April 13, 2023 in response to a complaint from a resident, the Salem
Board of Health conducted sound meter readings at Prestige Car Wash located at 51
Canal Street in Salem, MA. The complainant's residence, which is also the closest
residence to the car wash, is 15 Ropes Street in Salem, MA.
Sound meter readings were taken in the morning and in the evening. The sound source
under investigation was the blowers at the end of the automated car wash. These
blowers are used to dry cars as they exited the automated car wash. The car wash
blowers turned on and off intermittently as cars went through the car wash, so sound
level readings for when the sound source is on also rose and fell intermittently. The
following are information and data pertaining to the readings:
Morning Sound Readings
Weather: Clear skies, 660F, 8mph Wind Speed
Reading 1
File Name: 831 Data.001

For this recording, ambient noise spikes during the periods the blowers were OFF came
from passing cars, the sprayers and handheld blowers in the car bays on the car wash's
lot, and people having conversations nearby.
