An application Is being submitted to the Board of Appeals for the following reasons):
I am proposing to build a new,second egress for our first floor unit(Unit 1)in order to wall off the occupant's access to the basement and
make that space part of the 2nd/3rd floor unit(Unit 2).This will require building a porch to replace the current egress and expand access
for the new,second egress for Unit 1.This porch will necessarily be butt into the setback with our neighbors property;however,since it is
replacing an existing structure that serves the same purpose,we are advised by the building inspector that a special permit is necessary
and appopriate.
For this reason,I am requesting:

The Undersigned hereby petitions the Board of Appeals to vary the terms of the Salem Zoning Ordinance and allow the project to be
constructed as per the plans submitted,as the enforcement of said Zoning By Laws would Involve precticeI difficulty or unnecessary
hardship to the Undersigned and relief may be granted without substantially derogating from the intent and purpose of the Zoning
Ordinance.

The proposed special permit will replace an existing egress with a porch that will facilitate separate egresses from Units 1 and 2.
Presently,the basement is accessible to both units through a common area,the change will permit us to restrict access to the basement
from the first floor unit and make i1 a clear part of Unit 2.
The proposed change will positively impact the social and community needs of our neighborhood by eliminating the potential,future use
of the basement space as an illegal 3rd unit and limiting its use to only the occupants of Unit 2.11 will not Impact or restrict existing
economic activity in the neighborhood.
Additionally,it will not impact traffic flow and safety or the adequacy of utilities or other public services.The proposed change will be a
raised porch built over an existing concrete walkway.As a result,It will not Impact the natural environment or drainage.
The proposed change will be aesthetically consistent with the existing structure and neighborhood,arguably more so than the current
egress.
The proposed change will have no impact on the City Tax base or employement.
