155 Washington Street (Tavern in the Square): Discussion and vote on proposed
signage
SRA Decision
At its meeting on July 9, 2014, the SRA voted 5-0 to approve a June 25, 2014
DRB recommendation to approve the installation,of signage at 155 Washington
Street (Tavern in the Square), except with respect to the removal of one of the
blade signs. The SRA will allow the applicant to keep all three blade signs.
Recommendation
At its June 25, 2014 meeting the DRB voted 5-0 to recommend approval of the three
blade signs at 155 Washington Street (Tavern in the Square), on the condition that
the blade sign on Washington Street that is closest to the entrance of the restaurant
be removed.
Staff Comment
As noted below, the signage was installed prior to DRB or SRA review. The
applicant has indicated that it would like to keep all three signs despite the
recommendation from the DRB that it remove one of them.
Proposal for June 25 DRB Meeting
In 2009 the DRB approved three 48N22" (7.3 sq/ft) blade signs to be erected at this
location. The applicant is now seeking approval for three new 22.5"x38" (6 sq/ft.)
blade signs that have already been erected, and which have a different design than
had previously been approved. Pictures and specifications of the signs are attached.
Staff Comment
The proposed signage is compliant with the City of Salem's sign ordinance.
