Subject: Permission to Obtain Building Permit for 46 Summit Avenue in Phases
A petition has been filed with the Zoning Board of Appeals to expand an existing single
dormer at 46 Summit Avenue. 1 am anticipating that this will be reviewed at the ZBA's
June 18`" meeting.
Additionally, the firm of EBACHER Company has been hired to design and install a NFPA
73D sprinkler system (780 CMR 904.7) to be approved by the Salem Fire Department and
Building Department. They have already contaded the City to check water pressure in the
street and expect to complete the design for approval on or about June 11"'. As soon as the
sprinkler design is complete, it is my intent to submit this and drawing A-10 (Fire
Protection Plan) for appropriate approvals.
With this sequence in mind, I am requesting that a building permit be issued for 46 Summit
Avenue based on the drawi�gs A-1 through A-10 and dated 20 May 2008 with the
following provisos.
That debris removal as outlined on Drawing A-2 be allowed except for the removal
of the existing dormer and associated roof area until the Zoning Board of Appeals
considers and approves the petition to expand the existing dormer. No renovation
except debris removal will occur under the proposed new dormer until the dormer
is approved.
That interior wall/floor framing and the framing of the proposed ramp and exterior
stair (up to the third level) be allowed but no start of electrical and plumbing rough
ins will comrrience until the sprinkler system/fire protection plans has been
approved by the Salem Fire Department and Building Department. It is requested
that temporary power from the existing electrical panel be allowed to
accommodate power needs for work to occur and that repair to existing windows
and siding also be allowed to commence.
