Box 01971-8560 T978-745-6817 I F978.745.6067 www.structures-north.com 21 October 2014 Attn: Thomas J. St. Pierre, Director Salem Building Department QCU 120 Washington Street , yp Salem, MA 01970 Cc: Anne Busteed, Hamilton Hall Reference: Hamilton Hall 9 Chestnut Street Structural Conditions Survey of Fire Escapes Dear Tom: At the request of Hamilton Hall representatives we visited the site last winter in order to observe the structural conditions of the exterior fire escapes, and provide certification for the next five years per 780 CMR 1001.3.2, Testing and Certification. The fire escapes are the right side of the building, on its south elevation. Upon reviewing the conditions, we did not feel comfortable providing certification, and verbally described the deficiencies of the structure. We subsequently issued a project manual for repairs, which included replacing corroded steel elements and masonry repairs where rust-jacking lintels were damaging masonry, or where no lintels were present. Hamilton Hall also elected to replace damaged, or install missing lintels that did not fall within the minimum areas required to be repaired for the fire escapes. We recently visited the site and verified that the repairs have been completed in a satisfactory manner, and certify they have at this time been restored to good-as-new condition. Report Limitations This report is a summary of readily visible observations conducted during a series of five visits to the property. No finishes were removed to expose hidden structure, and no calculations have been performed to determine if the overall building framing or foundations of the structure comply with past or present building codes. This report is strictly limited to structural considerations noted. Other building systems were not reviewed, and they are beyond the scope of this report. Respectfully Yours, Structures North Consulting Engineers, Inc. Greg Nowak, E.I.T. John M.
