TGL ENGINEERING, INC. 251 Mundy Street, Suite C Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 (570)208-7233 www.LE/designs.biz June 17,2016 Jim Laskowski Endless Mountain Solar Services 288 Kidder Street Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 Re: Vaks Residence,6 Outlook Hill,Salem MA Dear Mr. Laskowski, As you requested, I have performed a structural evaluation of the roof framing at the above referenced residence. It is my understanding that solar panels weighing approximately 4 pounds per square foot(psf)are proposed to be installed on the south facing portion of the upper roof. Per your inspection, pictures and layout plan, the upper roof is framed with 2x6 rafters spaced at 16" on center, spanning 1 F-2" horizontally. The roof slopes at a 5:12 pitch. The Massachusetts Amendment to the 2009 International Residential Building Code snow chart indicates the design ground snow load in Salem is 40 pounds per square foot(psf), which translates to a design roof snow load of 28 psf. The roof dead load of the rafters, sheathing and shingles is approximately 10 psf and the addition of the solar panels results in a total dead load of 14 psf. For this evaluation, it was assumed the framing members are typical spruce-pine-fir mix, No. 2 or better. Our calculations indicate the rafters are stressed to 92% of their capacity under the full design load including the solar panels. Therefore it is my opinion that the solar panels may be added without reinforcement of the existing roof framing. No other framing areas were included in the scope of this evaluation. The above opinion is based on the above information provided by you and the assumption that the framing members are in sound condition. Any deviations from the above criteria discovered during the course of the work must be immediately brought to our attention. Please call me with any questions. Thomas Leonard, P.E.
